poietic.tech is a personal site run by Benjamin Small. Using it means accepting what follows. It is short because the site is small.
What this is
A personal site — this hub, a career page, and a blog at blog.poietic.tech — with optional accounts so visitors can comment on blog posts, create rooms at meetings.poietic.tech, and use the issue tracker at issues.poietic.tech. It is not a product, there is nothing to buy, and no fee is charged.
Accounts
You may create an account by signing in with GitHub or Google, or with an email address and a password. In doing so you agree that:
- The provider account or email address you use is yours.
- You will not impersonate another person, including through your display name.
- You are responsible for what is posted from your account.
Your email address identifies your account. GitHub, Google and a password are linked to the same account automatically when they share a verified email address. In the rare case where two separate existing accounts collide, they are not merged automatically, and you will be told to sign in with the original method.
Comments
Comments are posted on the blog, at blog.poietic.tech. Every comment is reviewed before it appears. Posting one is not a guarantee of publication, and nothing obliges the owner to publish, explain a decision, or keep a published comment up.
Do not post:
- Unlawful, harassing, hateful, or threatening content.
- Someone else's personal information.
- Spam, advertising, or links whose purpose is promotion.
- Malware, or attempts to break, probe, or overload the site.
- Content you do not have the right to post.
Comments are limited in length and in how many you may post per hour. Those limits exist to keep the review queue usable and may change without notice.
The issue tracker
The issue tracker is at issues.poietic.tech. Signing in there with your account does not by itself give you access: the owner approves each profile, and may decline or withdraw access without giving a reason.
The rules for comments above apply to everything you write or attach in the tracker. What you add to a public project can be read by anyone; what you add to a private project, by its members. The tracker keeps a history of every change, so editing or deleting something does not remove its earlier versions. You are responsible for what an agent you sign in does on your behalf.
What you keep, and what you grant
You keep ownership of what you write. By posting, you grant permission to display your comment on this site, alongside the display name you had at the time. That permission lasts as long as the comment is published; ask for it to be removed and it will be.
The same goes for what you add to the issue tracker: you keep ownership, and grant permission to display it, with your name, to whoever can see the project it is in, and to keep it in the project's history. Ask for it to be removed or anonymised and it will be.
The site's own content — the writing, the code samples, the design — belongs to Benjamin Small. Quote it with attribution; do not republish it wholesale.
Availability
This is one person's site. It may be offline, change without warning, lose features, or stop existing. No uptime is promised and none should be assumed. Comments, accounts and the issue tracker are backed up on a best-effort basis only — keep your own copy of anything you would mind losing.
Ending access
You may delete your account at any time, yourself, from your account page, or by emailing ben@poietic.tech. Access may be withdrawn, and comments or tracker content removed, for anything in the list above — or for conduct that makes running the site worse, at the owner's discretion.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing here is professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Benjamin Small is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of this site, including lost data or lost profits. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to one hundred United States dollars.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes a consumer-protection right your local law gives you and does not permit you to waive.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.
